Athletes - Tyler Yates

Tyler Kali Yates (born August 7, 1977 in Lihue, Hawaii) is a right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball with the Baltimore Orioles.

Yates attended the University of Hawaii at Hilo before being drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 23rd round of the 1998 MLB Draft. He spent most of seven seasons in the A's and New York Mets minor leagues before pitching in the majors in 2004 and managing a high 6.36 earned run average. Further experience has been prevented by Tommy John surgery in 2002 and rotator cuff surgery that wiped out his entire 2005 season. He was used as a relief pitcher in the A's farm system but the Mets have attempted to make him a starting pitcher following his 2002 surgery.

Yates signed a minor league deal with Baltimore before the 2006 season.
