| Arild Verner Agerskov "Vern" Mikkelsen (born October 21, 1928 in Fresno, California) is a former pro basketball player. He was one of the NBAs best forwards in the 50s and known for his tenacious defense. Mikkelsen teamed with George Mikan and Jim Pollard for the Minneapolis Lakers, forming one of the best frontcourts in basketball history. The Lakers won four NBA titles between 1950 and 1954. Mikkelsen ended his career after ten seasons in the NBA in 1959.
