Demon is a science fiction novel by John Varley, the third book in his Gaea Trilogy. Set 20 years after the events of the second book, the novel depicts the war against the living God/World Gaea by the Demon, Cirocco Jones, fallen Wizard of Gaea and former captain of the DSV Ringmaster. The book describes itself as "Being the Third Book in The Gaean Trilogy In which certain events described in Titan and Wizard come to their conclusions, And containing an account of The End of the World."

The Earth has been destroyed in a nuclear war, but Gaea has rescued a few survivors, cured them of their radiation sickness, and allowed them to colonize Her interior as fodder for a final war that Gaea, in Her senility, is deliberately maneuvering to bring about. In a bid to win back the loyalties of the Titanides, a race of centaurs, Gaea has caused a human child to be born with the ability to quicken Titanide eggs, a power previously only vested in the Wizard. At the moment when Jones realizes the child's value to free her of the overwhelming responsibility to continue the Titanide race, he is kidnapped by zombies loyal to Gaea and taken to Her combination army emcampment/travelling film festival Pandemonium, thus triggering the war.
