| The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin is a children's story written and illustrated by Beatrix Potter, first published by Frederick Warne in 1903. As the story itself says, it is "a Tale about a tail - a tail that belonged to a little red squirrel" whose name is Nutkin. Squirrel Nutkin goes along with a group of squirrels to Owl Island to gather nuts. However, while all the other squirrels are busy collecting nuts, he is often playing or making mischief. And while they present the resident owl with gifts, he dances and taunts him with sing-song rhymes.
