The Ariel Atom is a high performance sports car made by Ariel vehicles based in Somerset, England. It is unusual in the respect that the chassis is the body. It contains a range of engines with the top of the range being a supercharged Honda Civic Type-R and can reach speed rivalling those of much more expensive automobiles. In the USA it is available with a supercharged GM from the Cobalt SS.
The Ariel Atom has received great media interest, most recently when Jeremy Clarkson tested the Atom 2 on BBC motoring television programme Top Gear, where it lapped their test track faster than a Porsche Carrera GT. It also appeared as a background car in a segment for the Ford Focus ST. The car received a 1:19.5 on the Power Lap Times when driven by The Stig, placing it 4th behind the Pagani Zonda F (1:18.4) the Maserati MC12 (1:18.9) and the Enzo Ferrari (1:19.0).
The car is featured in the video game Project Gotham Racing 3 for the Xbox 360 console.
