Throughout the world there are many car stereo competitions, ranging from unofficial street style to very precise SQ (sound quality) competitions.
These competitions are very competitive, especially SPL, or dB Drags where the aim is to get one's subwoofer to play as loud as possible a bass tone less than 80Hz. There are many different classes that you enter depending your system. Your reading comes out as a certain number of decibels, the higher the reading the louder your system.
Many cars around the world are purpose-built for these competitions, some spending huge amounts of money on top of the line subwoofers and amplifiers to gain that extra few dB to win the competition and even take out the world record.
SQ competitions are more on the accuracy of systems and how they sound, and on how good the actual installation is.
