The Midget is a single-seat mini-truck made by Japanese automaker Daihatsu. Several distinct vehicles have borne the Midget name over the years, but all have had in common a single-seat utilitarian design, with an enclosed or semi-enclosed cab.
The name "Midget" when transliterated into Japanese differs in only the first character from "Hijet," the name of one of Daihatsu's other mini-trucks. Like the Hijet, the Midget is and was available in pickup truck and van configurations.Midget I
The original Midget was made from 1957 to 1972. It had three wheels, two in the back, and one in the front. It also had motorcycle-like handlebars in place of a steering wheel.
The Midget I has also been sold outside Japan as the "Bajaj"Midget II
From 1996 to 2001, Daihatsu manufactured a 4 wheeled kei midget with available 4WD. As Keicars, they were equipped with 660cc engines, and air conditioning was available.
