Lister Cars built the Storm road car in 1993. The Storm was followed by the Storm GT race car in 1995. Following two disappointing Le Mans efforts, Lister built a third version of the the Storm: the Lister Storm GTL. The Storm GTL, however, was a new breed of supercar. Built for the 1997 24 Heures de la Sarthe, the Storm GTL still retained the 7.0 litre Jaguar V-12 power plant. Backed by Adidas and the Newcastle United Football Club, the GTL was classified in the GT1 class- the fastest class of the mid '90's.
The new GTL performed even worse yet at Le Sarthe. Neither of the two cars finished. Lister's luck would change in 1998. Privateers began to purchase the Storm GTL and it was performing well, though not astronomical. The GTL couldn't keep pace with the factory Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR, McLaren F1 GTR, or Porsche 911 GT1, but it would settle for "the best of the rest". The Storm GTL, actually won the 1998 FIA GT Endurance race at Donington, though none of the big names showed. Around 1999, the Storm GTL was quietly disconituned, and it remains one of the lesser-known supercars of the world. Lister continues racing with the Lister Storm LMP and LMP Hybrid.Specifications
