The SEAT Altea is a compact MPV built by SEAT and named after Altea, Spain. The vehicle was launched in 2004 as the first example of Seat's new corporate look. The car is based on the same platform as several other SEAT and Volkswagen group cars, and is a family-oriented 5-seater that attempts to portray a more sporty image than most of its rivals. The SEAT Altea was designed by Italian Walter de'Silva. The new Toledo is identical except for the addition of a larger boot. The car is a direct competitor to the Renault Scénic, the Ford Focus C-Max and the Volkswagen Touran. The Altea has a five star Euro NCAP rating and seats five passengers. There are 5 trim levels: Essence, Reference, Reference Sport, Stylance, Sport and FR. 11 engines are also present with the range-topping 2.0 litre FR delivering 170bhp (the FR will be available in April 2006).
This mini-MPV was released in 2004, a few years after many of its competitors arriving on the scene but it was expected to sell quite well in its first year however, it exceeded expectations and sold 31, 223 Alteas within the first year.
