| The Volkswagen Fox is a supermini car produced and designed by Volkswagen in Brazil and exported to South America, Mexico (called Lupo) and Europe. Currently produced as a hatchback, a MPV/station wagon crossover version is expected for April 2006 - it will be built in General Pacheco, Argentina, and would be named Suram in Argentina and SpaceFox in Brazil. Regarding South America, it stands for price and quality between the other two superminis sold there, the inexpensive Gol and the Polo. Despite its height (1.50 m), inner room is quite similar to its competitors Chevrolet Corsa, Fiat Palio, Ford Fiesta, Renault Clio and Peugeot 206. There is a version with off-road apperance and greater ground clerance called CrossFox. Already for sale in Brazil, it is expected to be exported to Europe because of the expanding Mini SUV market (see Fiat Sedici/Suzuki SX4, Daihatsu Terios) Other models labelled Volkswagen FoxFox was also the name of a small sedan and station wagon sold by Volkswagen in North America as an entry level model and derived from the hatchback Gol, produced in the late 1980s and early 1990s in Brazil. The two-door sedan was called in Brazil the Voyage, and in Argentina the Gacel (four-doors were sold as the Amazon and Senda respectively). The wagon version, which was a 3-door due to Brazilian preference at the time, was also made and marketed as the Parati in South America and the Volkswagen Fox Wagon in North America. It was a design unique to South America, although it bore a family resemblance to the Volkswagen Jetta. After 1989 it was discontinued from the North American market; it was the last two-door wagon offered in the US.In South Africa, the Volkswagen Fox was a model based on the original Jetta, but featuring the front end of the Citi, itself a facelifted version of the original Volkswagen Golf, still in production in South Africa.
