ActiveSync is a synchronisation program developed by Microsoft Corporation. The purpose of the program is to synchronise files, favourites, PIM data etc. between a Windows PC and a PDA running Windows Mobile. It is designed to synchronise PIM data with Microsoft Outlook, although alternative software is available for some non-Microsoft PIMs - such as FinchSync for Thunderbird.Major releases

::ActiveSync 4.0 and 4.1 no longer allow synchronization via exposed TCP/IP connections (such as WiFi, LAN or Dial-up). Wide Area synchronization is now only supported in conjunction with Microsoft Exchange Server under Windows Mobile devices. These changes have no effect on Personal Area synchronization such as Infrared, Serial, USB or Bluetooth.
