Aegwynn is a fictional character in the Warcraft universe.

Biography

Aegwynn was the second-last Guardian appointed by the Kirin'tor to protect the world from the coming of the Burning Legion. Her appearance in the Warcraft Universe is found in the game manual and the novelization The Last Guardian.

She is famous for slaying the Titan Sargeras in battle. Sargeras, before death, channeled part of his soul into Aegwynn. The battle between Sargeras and Aegwynn is depicted in an epic poem entitled 'The Song of Aegwynn'.

Aegwynn later conceived a child with Nielas Aran, a court conjuror and advisor to the king (who later became an archmage). This was, according to Aegwynn, for the sake of bearing a child to be the next Guardian and was just for convenience. Aegwynn left Aran and gave birth to the Last Guardian, Medivh. However, as a result of Sargeras' soul entering Aegwynn's body during combat, Medivh was tainted by the power of Sargeras and had a split personality.

Medivh's powers grew so strong (due to Sargeras's soul) that at one point, he challenged Aegwynn.

It was only assumed that Aegwynn dies. In the novel, it specifies that Medivh (or Sargeras-Medivh) could not kill Aegwynn, something of Medivh, the part that is the son of Aegwynn prevented him from doing so. Thusly, Sargeras instead crippled his mother and threw her into an unknown plane. Sargeras said that by the time that Aegwynn had recovered and returned, he would have already ruled Azeroth with his orcs. However this has not happened.

It is then later discovered in the novel Cycle of Hatred that Aegwynn, is infact, alive and well. Living in Kalimdor in exile since her banishment, she has kept herself a recluse and was believed to be the one responsible for ressurrecting her formerly dead son. When Jaina Proudmoore discovers the old guardian, she manages to convince her to leave exile. Now she works along side Jaina Proudmoore to defend Theramore from continued threats, both demonic and other.
