| Akar Kessel, once the apprentice of the wizard Morkai the Red, almost destroyed Ten Towns. He was left to die by Dendybar the Mottled, who had, prior to the abandonment, acted as a friend to Kessel. He had told Kessel to kill his master in return for great power in the city as the new head of the mage's guild. After being left in the Spine of the World by Dendybar, Kessel came across a shard of crystal that emitted warmth. The crystal was called Crenshinibon and it held great power. Using the power of the crystal, Kessel began to build an army of orcs, goblins, trolls, and many other beasts. He used Crenshinibon to create a solid crystal tower called Cryshal-Tirith. Kessel then summoned the demon Errtu to his tower, to be the general of his army. After much preparation, Kessel set out to attack Ten Towns. Kessel was eventually slain by Drizzt Do'Urden and Crenshinibon was buried under about 100 feet of snow. Ten Towns killed the remaining goblins, and orcs of Kessel's army. These events tooks place in R.A. Salvatore's bestselling novel, The Crystal Shard
