Games - Almalexia

Almalexia is a fictional character from the game Morrowind, one of the three living Gods of the Tribunal Temple.

Legendary Origins

From various sources, it can be inferred that, prior to Nerevar
, Almalexia was a figure of authority among the Chimer. It is written that she had a great number of different lovers, although the most important of these was certainly Nerevar Indoril, the Hortator of the Chimer. As wife of Nerevar, she was one of his chief advisors, and thus, when the Battle of Red Mountain ended and Nerevar died, she rose to power. Although the Temple maintains that she was born a god, Ashlander tradition states that she murdered Nerevar in the ritual to summon Azura, and, using Kagrenac's Tools and the Heart of Lorkhan, ascended to godhood.

Almalexia in Modern Morrowind

Over time Almalexia became increasingly mad. Although she was once the most visible Tribune, she became increasingly isolated. Near the end of The Third Age of Tamriel
, Vivec
feared that she would attempt to murder him, and with good reason. She would succeed in killing Sotha Sil
in his Clockwork City. When the Nerevar
ine came to Mournhold, Almalexia (who hid her madness at the time) asked him to do a number of tasks for her so that she could strengthen her hold of the city. Almalexia's power had waned ever since the destruction of the Heart of Lorkhan as the power of the Tribunal was bound to this godly organ. Almalexia devised a plan in able to destroy her once beloved Nerevar
and ruling counterpart Sotha Sil
in an attempt to seize power as the sole living God on Tamriel. After traveling to the Clockwork City in secrecy, she staged an attack on Mournhold
, her patron city, and lied to the re-born Nerevar by saying that Sotha Sil had gone mad and needed to be stopped; the Nerevar
ine, would be the one to secure the world from the outcast mage. The Nerevar
ine was transported to Sotha Sil
's Clockwork City by Almalexia in order to carry out her orders. Nerevar
finally reached Sotha Sil
after battling through the twisted other-worldly hallways of the forge-like city to discover that Sotha Sil
had already been long dead, gruesomely killed. As he turned to leave Almalexia appeared before him. Nerevar
could not escape. No magic of levitation nor intervention could allow him passage from the forge. Almalexia did not intend Nerevar
to leave and explained why she killed Sotha Sil
and why she was about to kill Nerevar
and how she had intended him to die in the process of finding the "mad-wizard". With her treachery revealed Almalexia attempted to kill the Nerevar
ine. Almalexia planned to claim that the Nerevar
ine had died valiantly defending the people of Tamriel from Sotha Sil, and that although Sotha Sil
lay slain, Nerevar
was mortally wounded. Before the Nerevar
ine died, he pledged himself to Almalexia with his dying breath. With the Nerevar
ine supposedly martyred in her name, Almalexia would become the dominent Goddess of the Tribunal. Speculation remains as to whether she would then have attempted to kill Vivec
, the other surviving member of the Tribunal - Vivec himself seemed to think so. However, during the final battle in the Clockwork City, the Nerevar
ine slayed Almalexia and he emerged victorious. He took Barilzar's Mazed Band from her lifeless finger and took her legendary weapon. He then, using Barilzar's Mazed Band, returned to Mournhold
to report of the happenings. Azura appeared to the Nerevar
ine in front Almalexia's temple and congratulated the Nerevarine for his triumph that had secured the peoples of Tamriel. She urged him to live out his destiny and continue to defend the now leaderless citizens.
