Games - Ashley

Ashley is a character first appearing in the Nintendo DS
game WarioWare: Touched!. She is a young witch in training who lives in a creepy mansion in Diamond City with her grandmother and a little devil named Red. She is very emotionless and has never been seen smiling. She often spends her time trying to make various concoctions with her cauldron, but often has trouble finding the right ingredients. Red spends a lot of his time helping her. Her character resembles that of an evil magical girl.

Ashley's games in WarioWare: Touched! deal with dragging an object from one point to another in order to accomplish some goal, such as striking a match, herding animals, and buying clothes.

Ashley is voiced by famed Japanese seiyū (voice actress) and singer Megumi Hayashibara in the original Japanese game, Sawaru Made in Wario, and is voiced by Christina Peyser in the English version.

Boss Stage

  • US Name: Global Warning
  • JPN Name: ちきゅうシューティング (Chikyū Shūtingu; Earth Shooting)
The goal of this game is to take the earth and, like all the other games in Ashley's set, drag it along. The game is basically a vertical scrolling shooter. Along the way, you'll run into the following.

Instructions: Infiltrate!, Help!, Destroy!

  • Planet-oids: They fire pellets at you, and try to ram into you.
  • Comets: They just fly at you, but faster than the planet-oids.
After you get past a few waves of these, you'll encounter a set of asteroids, and a man you need to rescue. After you complete this, the moon will appear and start orbiting you, firing bursts of energy one at a time. At this point, you get to the 'core'. The core is surrounded by a varying amount of planets, and occasionally shoots a stream of three comets at you, while the planets themselves shoot pellets at you in a circular formation. Occasionally, planet-oids will also fly down and explode at the bottom of the screen. After you shoot the core enough times, it explodes and the level ends.

Higher levels just throw more stuff at you, although the second wave of planet-oids in level two deviate from the normal strategy of shooting at you in order to do a thing where they track whichever way you're going, making it difficult to get by them.

Theme Song

Unlike the other characters in WarioWare: Touched! (except for Mike), Ashley has a lyrical theme song that plays throughout her level. Because of this, her microgames aren't quite as random (they need to be timed so that the boss game starts at the end of the song), and the level will only advance when the timer hits zero (even if you finish the task with several seconds left) You can also hear it by unlocking the "Turntable" souvenir.

Here are the lyrics to Ashley's theme song:

Who's the girl next door living in the haunted mansion?
(You'd better learn my name 'cause I am) Ashley!
She knows the darkest spells and brews the meanest potions
(You might be the ingredient I seek)

Don't let yourself be fooled by her innocent demeanor
(You should be afraid of the great) Ashley!
She doesn't play with dolls and she never combs her hair
(Who has time for girly things like that?)

Eye of newt, I cast a hex on you
Grandma's wig, this will make you big
Kitten Spitz, soon your pants won't fit
Pantalonis Giganticus!
(Oh no, not again!)

She could rule the world and still finish all her homework
(Everyone knows that I'm the greatest) Ashley!
You'd better watch your step or she'll cast a spell on you
(I turned my teacher into a spoon)

I'm a slave to my spellbook, and yes it's true
I don't have as many friends as you
But I think you're nice, and maybe we could be friends
And if you say no, you're toast

Who's the girl next door living in the haunted mansion?
(You'd better learn my name 'cause I am) Ashley!
Just remember this when you see her on the street
(I'm the cruelest girl you'll ever meet)

There are believed to be subliminal messages in the Turntable souvenir. When spinning the record clockwise very quickly, Ashley says something that sounds very close to one of the claims of Satan. The official word, according to Nintendo Power, is that it's just "a very creepy coincidence." The quote is,"I have granted kids to hell." Also, in the later part of her song, when spinning quickly (in the manner of "I have granted kids to Hell") some believe you can also hear "I'd like a muffin", or "I rise above it".

Ending

Orbulon
, whom Ashley wants for the last ingredient in a potion, manages to make a getaway. Red, Ashley's pet devil, apologizes to her for his failure, and Ashley appears to forgive him--but afterward mentions that she can simply use Red as the ingredient, much to his shock. Later, the two of them travel to the Hawt House, and although Red is dancing with the other characters, Ashley is the only character simply standing and not dancing at all.
