Azalea Town is a fictional town in the video games Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. It is featured south of Violet City, just after the Union Cave and west of the Ilex Forest. It is home to the second Pokemon gym and its leader Bugsy. Like all Towns in Johto, Azalea Town is named after a plant (Azalea)

Azalea Town Gym

Bugsy runs the Azalea Town gym, where he trains bug pokémon. After reaching him by beating numerous forced battles, he attacks with his three pokemon: Metapod, Kakuna and his powerful Scyther. After beating him, you will receive the Hive Badge and permission to go onto the Ilex Forest. However, you cannot enter past the Team Rocket Grunt blocking the way until you fix the Slowpoke problem (see below).

Slopoke Well

The town has a massive Slowpoke population, and is home to the Slowpoke Well. Team Rocket has taken control of Slowpoke Well once the player reaches Azalea Town. Naturally, it is the player's duty to stop them. When you enter the well, you'll find Kurt unable to battle due to his injured back. Advance through the starightforward area, and beat the leader. You'll receive a Super Potion for healing your pokémon and Team Rocket will leave. Kurt'll check the Slowpokes, and you'll be back in his house.

You can return to the well later after finding HM04: Strength (to Move out of the way the large boulder) and HM03: Surf (To Traverse the waters). Using these techniques, you can find TM18 to teach your pokémon Rain Dance, and a Scientist who will give you the king's rock. This useful item will allow you to evolve Slowpoke into Slowking or Poliwhirl into Politoed.

Kurt: Poké ball maker

This town is also home to Kurt, who make different kinds of Poké Balls out of Apricorns. The Poké Balls he makes cannot be found anywhere else, and have special properties. Most of them are also excusive to Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal—while the Friend Ball became the Luxury Ball and the Level Ball became the Nest Ball, the rest may or may not be seen again. Kurt takes a real life day to complete a Poké Ball. While he can only work on a single Apricorn in Gold and Silver, in Crystal he can take multiple Apricorns of the same kind because his granddaughter is now able to help him. The White Apricorn becomes the Fast Ball, The Blue becomes the Lure Ball, The Black becomes the Heavy Ball, The Green Becomes the Friend Ball, The Pink becomes the Love Ball, and the Yellow becomes the Moon Ball. While the White Apricorn can be found directly behind Kurt's house, The black, blue and red ones must be found on Route 37, and the Green, Pink and Yellow ones on Route 42.

Nessecities

Like most other cities, Azalea Town has a Pokémon Center and a pokémon mart (or shop). These, however, are not much different than the ones in other cities. The pokemon mart sells:

Charcoal Man's House

After you rescue the Farfetch'd in the Ilex Forest, the thankful owner will give you HM01: Cut. When you visit him here, you must help him find his lost apprentice in the forest. When you do he will give you a piece of Charcoal for raising the power of Fire Type Attacks.

Other Forest Towns

Interestingly, there seems to be a tradition in Pokémon games to include a city either inside or outside a forest. In Gold, Silver, and Crystal, the town is Azalea Town, in Ruby & Sapphire it is Fortree City, and in Pokémon Colosseum it is Agate Village. Azalea Town's population is 18.
