Barry the Rescue Engine is both the title of an unpublished book in The Railway Series by Christopher Awdry, and the name of its main character.

'Barry the Rescue Engine' was going to by the 39th Railway Series book, but was never printed. This book followed events in 'Wilbert the forest engine', where the Fat Controller finally solved his locomotive crisis. In this unpublished book 'Barry' was saved from scrap from Barry Island Scrapyard, hence the name.

'Thomas and the Fat Controller's Engines' was printed instead, after the publishers pressured C. Awdry into writing another 'Thomas'-focused book.
