Boot Configuration Data (BCD) is the boot-time loader for Microsoft's upcoming Windows Vista and Windows Server "Longhorn" operating systems. It replaces NTLDR and IA64LDR.EFI.Overview
Amongst other things, BCD adds support for:
- Booting from WIM disk image files
- Remote debugging over USB connections (NTLDR only supported serial and Firewire debugging)
- Configuration of BCD using a command-line tool (bcdedit.exe) or by using Windows Management Instrumentation
- Extensible Firmware Interface (in Windows Server "Longhorn" but not Windows Vista)
