Games - Cerulean Cave

The Cerulean Cave is a cave in Pokémon Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, FireRed, and LeafGreen. While the cave is actually called Cerulean Cave in all games it is in, the Nintendo Power Player's Guides for Red, Blue, and Yellow call it Unknown Dungeon, and as such many people call it that instead of Cerulean Cave.

Access to Cerulean Cave is denied until the player defeats the Elite Four
and the champion. In it, Mewtwo
(a Pokémon cloned from Mew
) resides. The player only has one chance to capture it. Mewtwo is a Psychic type with very high base stats, and is at level 70 when the player fights it. Thus, a popular technique for catching it is to use the Master Ball (a Poké Ball that never fails; only one is found per game), rather than defeating Mewtwo otherwise. In FireRed and LeafGreen one has to get the Ruby and Sapphire and give them to Celio in the Sevii Islands in order to move the man in front of the Cerulean Cave entrance.

In Gold and Silver, the entrance to Cerulean Cave is not there, and a hiker in Cerulean City tells you that a nearby cave had caved in recently. He is obviously referring to Cerulean Cave. Mewtwo must have either fled or been caught before the cave collapsed, because in the water nearby is the Berserk Gene, a hold item that is an obvious reference to the genetically engineered Mewtwo.
