A clan tag is a common internet term use to denote the prefix or suffix that internet multiplayer gamers use to associate themselves with a computer or video game clan. Tags are often enclosed in brackets or symbols and coloured differently if the game allows it. For example, in a name like "Bob", "" is the clan tag and "Bob" is the player's name. A large number of multiplayer games support the use of clan tags. For example, Age of Empires III features integrated clan support where a clan's tag will automatically appear before a player's username.

Clan tags are as unique as the clans that they represent. Most tags are somehow directly related to the full name of their clan. An example of tags representing this is the clan tag which represents the GIRLz clan, an all female gaming organization. Many variations exist on the standard clan tags, however most clan tags are made using brackets or other closely related symbols.
