| Continuum is the primary game client for the computer game SubSpace. Players often use the words SubSpace and Continuum interchangeably. Continuum was developed by the SubSpace players known as PriitK (Priit Kasesalu, who has also worked on the development of Kazaa and Skype) and Mr Ekted. It is currently said to be the largest Massive Multiplayer Online Player-Run game on the internet. The game hierarchy is broken into Hosts, and then into Zones. Zones are just another word for servers as in other multiplayer games. Trench Wars is the most common Zone played in SubSpace. Trench Wars also belongs to the largest host, SSCU. Despite the primitive nature of the two-dimensional graphics and the deceptively simple style of play, Continuum has become very successful in attracting new players as well as keeping older players interested. GameplayThere are 8 different ships in the game. Warbird, Javelin, Spider, Leviathan, Terrier, Weasel, Lancaster and Shark. Some of the more popular Zones are Extreme Games, Trench Wars, Death Star Battle, and Chaos. In this game, you pilot spaceships and fulfill objectives such as CTF (capture the flags), balling (which is somewhat like soccer), or just plain death match. In zones such as Extreme Games, the primary objective is 'flagging', another word for CTF. In larger zones, there may be multiple 'arenas'. Different arenas in a common zone may be completely unrelated to each other, in terms of graphics and objectives. For example, Trench Wars's main arena hosts the ships having slow firing, but powerful shots. An arena in Trench Wars, Pocketarmy has a side scrolling view of animated army vehicles. Zone Staff may sometimes log on and host a variety of games in certain arenas made so that you can only play with a staff member online. Some include Chase in the Metal Gear zone (Warbirds run around in a hexagon to avoid being killed by Javelins), and Cars also in the Metal Gear zone (Cops & Robbers type game). BotsMany Zones feature Bots that add extra functionality to the game play. The most common publicly available bot is MERVBot written by a player known as Catid. One of the downsides to MERVbot is the simplicity of creating and editing plugins has caused a large amount to be poorly constructed making it unstable. Some Zones have developed their own private bots. ASSSASSS is an acronym for A Small Subspace Server. It is primarily designed for Linux OS's but also runs on Windows and BSD. The majority of zones use a modified version of Subgame. The advantage of ASSS is that it's very customizable. The disadvantage is that being relatively new it is not used very much.[ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Continuum (game client) ] | Searches on eBay |
