cs_militia is a popular hostage rescue map in the first-person shooter game Counter-Strike
. The map was ported to Counter-Strike: Source on January 18, 2006 by Turtle Rock Studios.

The map

Militia centers on a large house in which the 4 hostages are kept. Militia contains many of wide open areas, as well as an underground sewer passage. The underground sewer passage is also easily guarded by Terrorists from the crates near the second sewer and from the ledge along sewer three.

Criticism

Militia is often criticized as being unfairly balanced to the advantage of the Terrorists. The Terrorists spawn in the easily defensible house, and can easily cover every path that the Counter-Terrorists can come from. However, this advantage was lessened in the CS: Source version of the map, in which many of the walls are relativily thin, allowing bullets to pass through them and killing any hidden Terrorists on the other side.

The Counter-Terrorists start in a tucked-away location with a tunnel leading to the clearing which is often the site of firefights. The Terrorists often snipe from the house's roof while the Counter-Terrorists take cover behind a rock formation. The Counter-Terrorists usually eventually move out and rush the house, but sometimes they stay there so long that Terrorists can come up behind them through the sewer, eliciting amusing responses from the spectators.

Another attack route for the Counter-Terrorists is the underground sewers, which lead to two exit points at the rear of the house. It is very easy for one Terrorist to cover both sewer entrances, but this often does not happen. The sewers also provide a location for firefights, as the Terrorists sometimes elect to rush the sewers.
