Games - Daphne Fowler

Daphne Fowler (formerly Daphne Hudson) is a British retired bank clerk (lives in Weston-super-Mare) and game show champion. Since taking early retirement, she has taken part in many televised game shows. She has won many titles, including winning Fifteen to One
(twice), Going for Gold
and Brain of Britain
. She is currently taking part in the game show Eggheads
, where she is one of the team of five game show champions challenged daily by a new quiz team.

The game shows she has appeared in include:

  • Winner Takes All (1979)

  • One to Win (2000)
  • Fifteen to One (2000)
  • Fifteen to One (2001) — series winner
  • Fifteen to One (2001) — series winner
  • Eggheads

One of Fowler's best-known quirks is that she frequently strings opponents (and viewers) along by pretending to struggle with questions before giving the correct answer. She also has the unusual ability of being able to remember the dates of birth and death for a large number of famous people.

Contestants are often guilty of prejudging Daphne based on her ‘sweet old lady’ appearance, and regularly choose her as their opponent for the sports round, only for the show’s host to reveal that sport is actually Daphne's strongest subject.
