Games - Deal or No Deal

The original version of Deal or No Deal, the worldwide hit game, was titled Miljoenenjacht, which roughly translates to "Hunting Millions". The show airs since 2005 on the Dutch television station , but used to be broadcast by Tros on Nederland 2 from its start in 2001. The game is hosted by Linda de Mol. "Miljoenenjacht" airs in six-episode groups, and then takes breaks to let other shows air. The Dutch version is also directly sponsored by the Postcode Loterij. A contestant and at-home viewer has a chance to win up to €5,000,000 or as little €0.01.

Quiz Round

Five hundred audience members are seated in a giant area-like set. The audience is divided into two sections of 250, each either red or blue. Each side color is then divided into five sections of 50 and then two blocks of twenty five. Linda de Mol, the host, enters the set thought the giant vault doors, and begins this quiz portion. Linda fields a three choice question to the players, and each locks in within roughly ten seconds on their keypads. Each right answer gains their team of 250 (red or blue) a point, with a wrong answer being nothing. Points are announced after each question, and the team with the most points after three questions advances to round two. The other team of 250 is out of the game. Round two makes the five blocks of fifty face off in the same fashion as above. Finally, round three sees the two blocks of twenty five battle each other. Two different variations of round four existed during the show's current run.

Round Four Part One

The twenty five audience members in the block that successfully won plus one random audience member from the remaining 475 contestants are placed at podiums in the center of the set. Three questions are given to the twenty six players, the first have two choices, the second having three, and the third having four choices. A player locks in their answer. If a player answers correctly, he/she receives one point for each contestant that missed it. If a player misses, he/she receives nothing. The two highest scorers at the end of the three questions move on to the final quiz round. This round existed until the 2005 season.

Round Four Part Two

Starting in 2005, the five best players from the winning block plus one random audience member take their place at one of six podiums. Linda gives the players a series of clues one at a time that pertain to a certain person, place, or thing. If a player buzzes in and is correct, that person selects an opponent to eliminate from the game by pressing one of five buttons on their podium. However, the other remaining players have a chance at some money. If they feel they have been chosen to be eliminated, their buzzers become unlocked and one may buzz in. The first person that does chooses a colored suitcase. Each contains from €1000 to €22,000. Whatever is in the case is what that player wins. If a player answers incorrectly, buzzes in to take the bribe, or if no one takes the bribe, that player (or the player the person with the correct answer selected) is eliminated from the remainder of the quiz portion. The game continues until two remain.

Round Five

The two remaining contestants face each other at a single showdown-style podium, with two buzzers and a giant neon bulb in the center. A mystery spinning suitcase is placed on the set stairs. The contents can be given to one of the two if they eliminate themself from the game, therefore giving the other player a chance to win from 1 cent to €5,000,000. Its contents range from trips, various prizes, or even cars. If no one chooses to take the bribe, Linda give one more 3 choice question. If a player buzzes in and answers correctly, that player wins the game and moves on to the bonus round. If a player buzzes in and is incorrect, the other player may answer with the two remaining choices. If both are wrong, a new question is given.

Bonus Round

Twenty-six ladies, identical down to their hair (they actually wear wigs) enter the studio from the vault doors. Linda and the winning contestant make their way to the stage, where the winner chooses one briefcase, from one to twenty-six, to become his/hers. After the selection, the players have a brief talk with The Banker (this is one of the few editions of the game that has both a speaking and fully visible Banker). Linda and the winner then make their way to the center stage, which is where the quiz portion takes place, just without the podiums. The twenty people from the winning block of round 3 that did not make it to Round 4 plus the five people who lost round 4/5 (In the old days, the 25 losers of the points game) are each given a different suitcase from the 25 remaining ones. They are seated in a special section on set in the order of their case numbers. The winning player finds out the contents of his/her selected case by eliminating others. Each round calls for a contestant to eliminate a set number of cases.
