Plot

The SG-1 team arrives on a primitive Christian planet which fears a demon living in the woods and appeases it with sacrifice. The "demon" is actually an Unas Go'auld, and the Christian Canon who chooses those to be sacrificed seems aware of this, using his position to gain power.

Teal'c is subjected to witchcraft tests on the basis of his forehead mark ("a mark of the devil") and appears to be drowned by the final of these tests. He returns to life after meditation, which is deemed to be a sign of Satanic influence. SG-1 is sentenced to be sacrificed to the demon along with a young girl deemed to be "possessed" (in reality, she only has chicken pox).

The Unas is finally stopped using their weapons but the Go'auld takes the Canon as a host, leading to the death of the "demon" and the Canon who are poetically the same at the end of the episode.

SG-1 encourages the villagers to bury their gate at the end of the episode.
