Games - Desert Combat Extended

Desert Combat Extended, also known as DCX, is a modification of the Desert Combat modification for the popular game Battlefield 1942.

DCX was originally started by a programmer called Zeuser. The original intent was to add extra features, including extra vehicles and weapons to the popular mod, Desert Combat
without affecting the Desert Combat modification itself. As the Desert Combat progressed and evolved, and grew more popular, so did DCX and new features and tweaks added progressively.

The ideas and innovations brought to DCX appealed to a large group of Desert Combat players, and people started to come forth offering to help Zeuser in his quest to improve Desert Combat. The modification eventually grew to include several dedicated artists and modelers, as well as dedicated coding talent. Desert Combat Extended eventually was hosted on its own servers, and website, which receantly lost in an unfortunate hosting mishap. At the height of its popularity, DCX was supported by a very large, vocal, and loyal fanbase.

Desert Combat Extended eventually led to the creation of Salty Dogs Productions and with the announcment of the sequal to DCX, their new project for Battlefield 2 called Rising Conflicts

The largest two servers for DCX were the "White Widow X" and "Hall of Slain" server, run by the WWX and clans, respectively. The founders and operators of the White Widow server then produced a mod(joint Arsenals) of a mod(DCX) of a mod(DC), called Joint Arsenals, which also used content from the Desert Combat Final modification of Desert Combat. The WWX server began running this mod, leaving the Hall of Slain server as the only consistently populated DCX server.

DCX ran into player base volume issues when the sequel to Battlefield 1942 was released, Battlefield 2. DCX's loyal player base, however, has retained enough volume to maintain one populated server.
