Games - Deus Ex: Invisible War characters

This is a guide to the characters in the video game Deus Ex: Invisible War.

Tarsus Academy/ApostleCorp members

J.C. Denton

Protagonist of the original Deus Ex, J.C. Denton becomes central to the plot of Invisible War despite making an appearance only towards the end of the game. A clone of his older "brother" Paul Denton, J.C. worked for UNATCO
, but eventually discovered it was corrupt. He left UNATCO soon after his brother defected, and would end up joining him. J.C. would eventually bring down MJ-12 by assassinating its leader, Bob Page. Soon after, J.C. merged with the A.I. Helios with the goal of creating the world's first benevolent dictator. Unfortunately, defects in J.C.'s nanite architecture resulted in an imperfect merge. J.C. would be forced into statis to wait for a cure, lest he die from the merge.

J.C.'s goal was to bring about the world's first "post-human civilization". By giving all humans the mental and physical advantages of biomodification, J.C. hoped to eliminate the stratification of humanity encouraged by the Illuminati. Additionally, biomodification would allow all human minds to communicate with the Helios A.I., which has the processing power to gauge the desires of each individual human. It would instantly respond to these desires, and thus bring about an "instantaneous democracy". Unlike the Omar collective, J.C. intended for Helios to communicate, not to assimilate. However, because Helios would know each and every human thought, many of J.C.'s enemies (such as the Illuminati and Knights Templars) feared the "Great Advance" would bring about universal slavery rather than universal democracy (the Illuminati believe that perfect slavery and perfect democracy are the exact same thing).

The merge with Helios gave J.C. total control over nanotechnology, transforming him into a walking universal constructor. He receives the power to do things such as to control the weather, to alter matter on an atomic level, allowing him to shape objects and buildings from the material he walks on.

J.C. behaves the same as every other human being in combat. He has more hit points than any other character in the game, making him harder to kill.

If Alex kills J.C., and sides with either the Templar or the Omar, the Helios A.I. will sacrifice itself to revive J.C. In one final attempt to prevent what J.C. and Helios perceive as the end of the world, J.C. will engage Alex and say "You want to plunge the world into chaos? Come and take it from me".

Paul Denton

Paul Denton is the older "brother" of J.C.; his DNA was used by MJ-12 to clone J.C.. He was a former agent of UNATCO, and the first to be nano-augmented, but left when he discovered the truth about the organization. As clones, both look alike, but are different in personality. J.C. is cold and stolid; Paul is passionate and empathetic. After the Great Collapse, Paul and J.C. founded ApostleCorp in an attempt to save humanity from its current state. Paul became the head of ApostleCorp's facility in Cairo.

He wished to hasten the revival of his brother after J.C. merged with Helios. Paul subjected himself to test a new formula for a breed of universally compatiable nanites, against the wishes of Tracer Tong. They were violently rejected from his body, and Tong was forced to preserve his body in cold storage until Tong and his scientists were able to cure him.

Tracer Tong

Tracer Tong is a powerful member of the Luminous Path Triads in Hong Kong, and a danger to the Illuminati, and its splinter group, MJ-12. The group saw him as a threat and ordered Paul and J.C., through their superiors at UNATCO, to kill him. By this time, however, both had defected and helped Tong and his work.

Tong contributed greatly to the resistance against MJ-12. He was key in influencing J.C. into initiating the Great Collapse. Tong believed the end of global communications would bring about a new enlightenment age of small government, and local city-states free from the control of secret, global superpowers such as the MJ-12. Instead, the Great Collapse brought about global chaos, anarchy, and warfare. The Denton brothers would found ApostleCorp with the goal of finding a less destructive route towards the advance of humanity and its freedom.

In Invisible War, Tong is the leader of ApostleCorp in Germany. When the complex is attacked by Templars, he is forced to flee. He eventually meets with Alex in the Nine Worlds Tavern in Trier, where he reveals to Alex the truth about ApostleCorp, J.C. Denton, and Alex's true origin and purpose. At the showdown on Liberty Island, Tong brings a small army of robots to aid J.C. against the Templar and Illuminati armies.

Dr. Leila Nassif

Dr. Leila Nassif was born into poverty in Cairo and at the age of six, she was accepted to a local Tarsus Elementary school program thanks to a need-based scholarship. She thrived under the Tarsus program, and over the next twenty-two years completed an education that culminated in an MS degree in Administrative Science and a medical degree from Seville Medical Center, with certifications in biomodification and psychology. After four years as assistant administrator of the Quito Reconstructive Therapy Center, she was offered her current position as Coordinator of the Seattle Advanced Training Facility.
