Games - Donkey Kong Junior

Donkey Kong Junior is a character from a Nintendo
arcade and video game. He is the son of the original Donkey Kong and first appeared in the self-titled arcade game. In this game, the object was for the protagonist to rescue his father, who had been captured by Mario
. After that he appeared in Super Mario Kart followed by an appearance in Mario's Tennis. Donkey Kong Jr. also made cameo appearances in the Game Boy version of Donkey Kong and the Game Boy Advance
remake of Super Mario Bros. 3.

In the game, Donkey Kong Jr. wears a white shirt with a red J printed on the front. On the box of Donkey Kong Jr. cereal, he wears a red shirt with white trim and has a big yellow J.

In Super Mario Kart , Donkey Kong Jr. was in the heavyweight driver class, (along with Bowser
) and boasted stats of high top speed, low acceleration, and as his class-name states, a heavy weight. The computer controlled Donkey Kong Jr. character in this game had infinite banana peels at his disposal to use as weapons. These banana peels could be thrown in front of Donkey Kong Jr., or set down behind him.

Donkey Kong Jr. was ousted from the Mario Kart
series in Mario Kart 64. Although he was in a series of educational games on the NES (Donkey Kong Jr. Math, which suggests that he might have a brother) and PC
(in the days of the SNES), he has not been in a starring role since. The other members of the Donkey Kong family, like Diddy
and Dixie Kong
, have taken more prominent roles. However, Junior does still make the occasional appearance, most notably in Donkey Kong '94, Mario Tennis (N64), and the Game & Watch Gallery series.

Though information on this matter is contradictory and unclear, it was confirmed by Leigh Loveday, writer for the Donkey Kong Country series of games, that the current "adult" Donkey Kong character is supposed to be a "grown-up" DK Jr. This information, however, is controversial, as it is stated in the Donkey Kong Country 2 manual that the current Donkey Kong is DK Sr.'s grandson. This was likely an error or joke to make Cranky seem older than he is. In Donkey Kong 64, he is confirmed to be DK's father.

However, many Nintendo loyalists insist that the current Donkey Kong is the original Donkey Kong and that Donkey Kong Jr. has simply disappeared. In addition, Nintendo previously referred to the current Donkey Kong, in such games as Mario Kart 64 and Super Smash Brothers, as "Mario's oldest rival." Thus, Cranky Kong did not seem to be canon as being Donkey Kong as far as Nintendo was concerned. This was contradicted in Mario Superstar Baseball, however, which said that the actual original Donkey Kong is an ancestor of the current one. However, this doesn't explicitly state the nature of this ancestor, except that he didn't wear a tie, making it a moot point so far.
