| Dune: Spice Opera is the very rare CD with some music from the computer game Dune and some unreleased, published by Virgin Records in 1992. Virgin Records was later sold to EMI, which then turned into the new holders of the copyright. The problem, and the reason this album is practically impossible to get except illegally or used, is that EMI have no plans of reprinting the album in the future, but still refuse to return the copyright to one of the composers Stéphane Picq. There are still hopes that the CD will become available again, either re-released by EMI, or by , which is the label that currently publish Stéphane Picq's music. Track listing# Spice Opera (4:47) (Stéphane Picq+Philip Ulrich) # Emotion Control (4:19) (Stéphane Picq) # Ecolove (5:01) (Stéphane Picq) # Water (3:05) (Stéphane Picq) # Revelation (6:00) (Stéphane Picq) # Free Men (6:37) (Stéphane Picq) # Wake Up (5:15) (Stéphane Picq+Philip Ulrich) # Dune Theme (5:07) (Stéphane Picq) # Chani's Eyes (5:03) (Stéphane Picq) # Sign of the Worm (3:15) (Stéphane Picq) # Too (4:35) (Stéphane Picq) # Dune Variation (6:20) (Stéphane Picq) # Cryogenia (4:46) (Stéphane Picq+Philip Ulrich)Artistic commentThe two artists who created this album are : Stéphane Picq and Philip Ulrich. Stéphane Picq was the "official" musician at Cryo, while Ulrich was the project Leader. Picq composed most of the tunes, but the most brilliant ones were the ones made by both of them, particularly the main track : "Spice Opera". "Spice Opera" is a perfect example of Stéphane Picq's "organic" musical style.Illegal versionsThese are much easier to get hold of since the CD is no longer sold. Stéphane Picq once gave this comment about these versions::"I have received many mails asking me about a new release of "DUNE Spice Opera" Unfortunately, the owners of the rights, EMI publishing, does not want to give me back the rights, even if they don't intend to reprint it in the future! :( Be patient, dudes, because I've signed with those bastards for 30 years!! Well, I should have read better my contracts (written in english) when I signed with CRYO and VIRGIN (now EMI). BUT... My crystal ball said to me that a MP3 copy of the whole thing is going to be available somewhere on the net... but shhhht! I did not told you... and I have nothing to do with it, cos' it's a pirate who did it. Anyway, nobody will be able to find any proof it could come from me ;^)" Soon after this was said, 128 kbit/s mp3 versions of the album started making its way on the net, and higher quality versions have also been seen.
