| ESPN College Hoops 2K5 is a video game developed by Visual Concepts & ESPN Videogames and published by Sega & Global Concepts. It is a college basketball simulation available for the Xbox and PlayStation 2. The game was released on November 17, 2004, so it contains accurate rosters for all 330 NCAA Division I basketball teams for the 2004-2005 season. Statistics regarding skill, height, position, and class are programmed in for each player corresponding to their real life counterpart. Because of NCAA restrictions, however, accurate names are not automatically associated with the players. Coaches also have appropriate statistics with respect to their skill, age, skin color, and how many years they've been with the school. They also have names different from those in real life, as well. GameplayThe game has many differing modes of play, allowing the user to set up tournament matchups or play a quick game, but the primary modes are open legacy and career legacy. In both legacy modes the player creates a coach and can play 40 years (from the 2004-05 season to the 2043-44 season). Players set up playbooks, contact and convince recruits to come to their school, hire assistant coaches, manage their rosters, set up training priorities, and, of course, play games. The only difference between open and career legacy is that in the open legacy the player gets to choose between any of the 330 schools, and in the career legacy the coach must start at a small school and work their way up to bigger ones.Nearly all of the game can be automated. Recruiting can be left solely to the assistant coaches, rosters can bet set up automatically, and games can be simultated. The player can choose what things to automate, so they can have as much or as little control over their team as they want. While playing on the court, the game tries to accurately simulate college basketball in many ways. Players get tired and they can be injured. Players cannot do unrealistic things like super dunks, and even a play like the alley oop is relatively difficult to perform. After each season in the legacy, the graduating players can be exported into ESPN NBA 2K5. ShortcomingsAs accurate as the game is, it is missing some minor things, such as fouls away from the ball (including technical fouls). There are also a number of bugs, including players shooting behind the backboard when in the low post, inaccurate in-game commentary, invalid RPI rankings, and conference trophies always being awarded to the alphabetically first team in the conference.[ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for ESPN College Hoops 2K5 ] | Searches on eBay |
