| Feng Shui Action Movie Roleplaying is a martial arts-themed role-playing game, designed by Robin Laws, published first by Daedalus Publishing and now by Atlas Games. The game's setting is taken from the collectible card game Shadowfist. The system is simple, with most detail being in the game's combat system. Combat is made to flow quickly, moving from one action scene to another very quickly. It was inspired and based on Hong Kong style movies which were becoming popular in the 1990s. The name Feng Shui refers to one of the central themes of the game: those who control the places in the world with powerful Feng Shui control the world, and thus all major historical events, wars and conflicts were based on control of these sites. Since the average person doesn't know this, these struggles are collectively known as The Secret War. Four time periods of Earth's history (69 AD, 1850, 1996 and the dystopian future of 2056) are connected and battled over by secret groups. These periods are connected by junctures to the Netherworld, a labyrinth of caverns which can be shaped by the power of ones will. Victories in one time period can cause a critical shift, altering future time periods and perhaps opening or closing juctures. Feng Shui uses a pair of six sided dice for all die rolls; one "good" and one "bad". The player's relevant attribute and skill are added to each other, then the good die is added and the bad die subtracted; the result is compated to the difficulty rating. The set of skills and attributes is quite small, but there is quite a large set of "schticks", or special abilities. One of the main features of the game is that the setting and layout is meant to be very vague, allowing the Game Master and the players room for creative improvisation and description of action events.
