Games - Ferion

Ferion is a browser-based game
of expansion, research, alliance and war whereby players build empires in an arena and compete for the possession of planets. Each arena typically contains 5000 planets which are grouped as solar systems (5 planets per system) and each empire starts with only 1 planet.

The game runs for a maximum of 1000 turns, however, a victory is assigned when an empire or alliance control a certain percentage of the arena (usually occurring well before the 1000 turn limit). Victory can also be achieved by being the first empire to build the Ferion Arena Controller (FAC), the ultimate technological feat in any arena.

The game can be played for free, however, a small subscription (called a "key") of 5 € ($7 US) per arena enables players to unlock the higher levels of research. The tech limit is such that players have a good idea if they are doing well in an arena before they use a key.

The forums and the rules are translated in several languages but the game is operated in the English language.

Beginning of the game

In the beginning of an arena, players will scramble to get to as many solar systems as possible. The point of this of course is to build your empire and control a larger % of the arena, which is the basis for a solo and alliance win. The more solar systems you get to before anyone else, the more planets you will have access to, and when it comes time to settle all of those planets, the larger your empire will be.

Goals

Success in ferion will also require a player to build and command fleets of ships varying in size to both attack and destroy your opponents' planetary defences, or to take out opposing fleets. Researching new technology is essential for any players success, as new technology will allow you to build better planetary defence systems, new weapons, better shields, faster engines, and even planet enhancers.

Guide

The unique ferion empire trade system is something that will be used by any serious arena contender. Technology such as ringworlds, new and powerful ships, and even the arena ending ferion controller can all be bought for a certain amount of basic, or refined ore. The first thing everyone scrambles to acquire is the Berzoid Planet Enhancer technology. Once you buy this, you have the technology for the rest of the arena. It allows you to build any planet lower than size 20 up to a 20. For each 100 production points put into the planet building the enhancer, it will increase in size by 1. So if you have a size 15 planet with 100% production, it will be making 150 points of production every turn, and the planet will increase in size by 3 every 2 turns.

Manage your planets and solar systems by assigning a certain percent of the population of the planet to work on different things, including production, science, and social. Balance your empire's governmental aspects by raising or lowering planetary tax rates, but don't let your taxes get too high, or your reputation will go down and your citizens will abandon you.

Remember to settle in as many solar systems as possible, the first ~200 turns are known as the gold rush, in which serious empires build and send out as many scouts as possible to discover new solar systems. The more solar systems you have, the more planets you have when it comes time to fill them in, and if you have a key to "unlock the arena" the more ringworlds you will have when the time comes to make a serious run at victory.
