The Final Fantasy VII technical demo is a short video clip created by Square Enix to illustrate the technical capabilities of Sony's upcoming PlayStation 3. The clip is a real-time recreation of the opening sequence of the 1997 role playing game Final Fantasy VII. It was first shown to the public at the 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).Complete game remakeWith the release of the demo, many fans began to speculate that Square Enix might be producing an enhanced remake of the entire game for Sony's new console. The producers of the demo have denied that the sequence was ever intended as anything more than a brief technical showcase, similar to the SGI demo produced using characters from Final Fantasy VI and the PlayStation 2 technical demo of the dance scene in Final Fantasy VIII.However, Final Fantasy VII director Yoshinori Kitase has made several comments that have led some to speculate that there may be more to the story than has been let on to the public. In the Japanese gaming magazine Dengeki PlayStation, he is recorded as having said: That said, in a more recent issue of Dengeki PlayStation, Tetsuya Nomura has stated that his next project after the production of Kingdom Hearts II wrapped up would neither be a remake nor another sequel to Final Fantasy VII, which may indicate that this new project Kitase has spoken of is not a remake, as in accordance with Square-Enix's multiple claims that no remake of Final Fantasy VII is in progress. It has been further said in an interview with Yoshinori Kitase in Electronic Gaming Monthly that such a remake would require a team of 300 people working on it for a full five years. He also stated that he would want Tetsuya Nomura to head up any such remake team, and Nomura for his part is currently tied up with other projects, which includes wrapping up the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII and his post-Kingdom Hearts II project. However, even if the demo is not a prelude to a remake of the complete game, it can be seen as a firm demonstration as to what the graphics for the next generation Final Fantasy game may be like.
