Games - Five Price Tags

Five Price Tags is a pricing game
on the American television game show The Price Is Right
. It is played for a car, and uses small prizes.

Gameplay

The game is played in two parts.

In the first part, host Bob Barker shows the contestant four small prizes, one at a time. For each prize, a price is shown. The contestant must guess whether the displayed price is "true" or "false." If the contestant is correct, he wins the prize and earns a choice of one of the five price tags representing the price of the car. A contestant could win up to four choices.

In the second stage, a board containing the five price tags is brought on stage. He selected one of the tags. If that tag concealed another tag that says "WIN" the contestant wins the car. If the tag hides the word "NO" however, the contestant could continue selecting tags until he exhausts all his choices (meaning the game could be lost even if the contestant won all four choices).

Trivia

  • Five Price Tags was first played in the fall of 1972, several weeks after the premiere of "The Price is Right." At that time, the game was frequently referred to as the "True or False Game."
  • Five Price Tags is one of only three current pricing game not to have its name displayed on the set or a prop; the other two are Most Expensive
    and 1 Wrong Price
    .
  • While certainly not the most important of stats, Five Price Tags likely holds the odd record of having the show's longest-surviving burnt out light bulb. In the early '00s, one of the bulbs in the third car backdrop from the left was burnt out for approximately 3-4 years.
  • Five Price Tags is believed to be the first car game besides Golden Road to offer a $10,000+ car.
