Games - Foot rating

Dance Dance Revolution has used the "foot rating" system in all mixes except DDR MAX. Based on a rating out of 10, the number of "feet" give the player an idea of the difficulty of the song. 1-4 foot songs are easier and are intended for newer players. 5-8 foot songs are more advanced and are intended for experienced players.

"Catas"

Songs rated 9 feet are usually refered to by experienced players as "catas", short for "catastrophic". 9-foot songs tend to feature intense, stamina draining runs and complex techniques such as gallops (a 16th note followed by a quarter note), crossovers (one foot remains stationary while the other moves between opposing arrows) and other difficult techniques.

10-footers

Beginning with MAX300
in DDR MAX, though not labled as such until DDR MAX2, songs more difficult than the conventional 9-footers have been given a designation of 10 feet. 10-footers are the hardest songs in the game, requiring intense stamina and reading abilities (all except one are around or over 300 BPM), as well as advanced techniques and the ability to navigate complex rhythms (most notably for bag, who's 64 BPM tempo make the song very difficult to read). At present, the list of arcade 10 footers (all Maniac/Heavy difficulty unless noted) is:

  • MAX300
    (DDR MAX)
  • MAXX UNLIMITED
    (DDR MAX2)
  • bag (DDR EXTREME)
  • SAKURA (DDR EXTREME)
  • The legend of MAX
    (DDR EXTREME)
  • Paranoia Survivor (DDR EXTREME)
  • Paranoia Survivor Max (DDR EXTREME)
  • Genom Screams (Double mode only) (DDR EXTREME)
  • Xepher (Oni steps only) (DDR SuperNOVA)
  • Fascination MaxX (DDR SuperNOVA)
  • Healing-D-Vision (Oni steps only) (DDR SuperNOVA)
  • chaos (DDR SuperNOVA)
In addition, there are several 10-footers released only for home versions:

  • MAX. (period)
    (DDR EXTREME Japanese home verson)
  • Gradiusic Cyber (Double mode only) (DDR ULTRAMIX)
  • Outer Limits (DDR ULTRAMIX)
  • MAX 300 (Super-Max-Me Mix)
    (DDR ULTRAMIX 2)
  • G2 (DDR ULTRAMIX 2)
  • Paranoia ~Respect~ (DDR Party Collection)
  • Go on, baby! (Dancing Stage featuring Dreams Come True)
The following 3 songs are listed as 10 feet in Dance Dance Revolution Disney's Rave, but because of the more liberal rating scale used in that game due to a younger target audience, most players consider them much less difficult than conventional 10-footers:

  • It's A Small World (Ducking Hardcore MIX)
  • Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
  • Twilight Zone
In addition to being 10-footers, 2 songs, The legend of MAX and Paranoia Survivor Max, are listed as "flashing" 10-footers, leading some players to believe that this represents a difficulty beyond 10 feet.
