Games - Godlike

Godlike: Superhero Roleplaying in a World on Fire, 1936-1946 is a WWII era Superhero role-playing game, created by Dennis Detwiller and with game mechanics by Greg Stolze. Godlike is currently published by Arc Dream Publishing but previously by Hawthorn Hobgoblynn Press and Pagan Publishing. Godlike is the first game released using the One-Roll Engine (O.R.E.) system, an innovative dice pool system where matched die results determine success.

Setting

Godlike is set in an alternate history version of World War II where people known as Talents have developed unexplained powers. Godlike is a gritty Superhero role-playing game, where wearing spandex and other flashy outfits is a sure way to draw a sniper's bullet that most Talents would not survive. The Godlike core book contains a detailed section reviewing key events of World War II with special attention paid to events that differed due to the Talents involved in the war.

System

While it was not called the One-Roll Engine at time of print, Godlike uses this system that is shared with other Arc Dream products like Wild Talents. The name One-Roll comes from the nature that one roll of the dice determines the initiative, success, location and damage of an action. The O.R.E. System involves a dice pool of d10s equal to the character's Stat and Skill where die result matches, such as a pair of 8s, are needed for success. The Width of a roll, the number of matching dice, determines the speed, and damage if in combat, of a roll, while the Height of a roll, the face up result on the matched dice, determines how successfull an action was, and location of a hit in combat. Short hand convention for writing results is Width x Hight, so a pair of 8s would be written 2x8 and three 2s would be written, 3x2.

There are also two special dice types that come from Talent Powers, Hard Dice, which are considered to always have a value of 10, and Wiggle Dice, which the Player can assign any die result to after the roll.

Included in the core book are rules for playing Godlike with an OGL d20 System.
