Games - Golduck

Golduck (ゴルダック Gorudakku in original Japanese, Entoron in German and Akwakwak in French) is a fictional species of the Pokémon
franchise.

Golduck's name is probably a portmanteau, derived from "gol," perhaps a shortening of the word "goliath," and duck.

Characteristics

Appearance

Golduck has webbed hands and feet which it uses to swim in rivers and lakes, much in the way as a duck would move. Its blue body is especially adapted to have a great hydrodynamic shape, and it has a long tail which it uses to steer. The center of its forehead has a red gem which catalyzes its psychic abilities making them more powerful. Its webbed hands have claws as well.

Due to its bluish color and webbed hands/feet, it is sometimes mistaken for the Japanese monster Kappa. Interestingly, Golduck seems to say "Kappa" when it speaks, as opposed to it's name like most other Pokemon.

Biology

Golduck lives in fresh-water lakes and in rivers, though it can also be seen occasionally in shallow coastal waters. It preys upon fish which it catches making use of its speed in the water. It is a faster swimmer than even the most athletic of humans because of its frog-like webbed feet. The gem on its forehead glows when it uses psychic powers as well as when it swims at full speed, suggesting that it sometimes uses those powers to swim.

In the video games

Wild Golduck can be found in all Pokémon video games. It can also evolve from its basic form Psyduck
, an evolution which occurs when Psyduck reaches level 33. In Pokemon XD a Navigator at the entrance of Citadark Isle has one to snag.

In the style of other Pokémon such as Alakazam
or Blissey
, Golduck's main strength lies in its Speed and in its Special Attack. However, Golduck, on average, has a higher Defense than these Pokémon, making it less susceptible to being knocked out.

Like Psyduck, Golduck is not a Psychic-type despite Psychic attacks being its trademark.

In the animé

Golduck makes several appearances throughout various episodes of the Pokémon anime.

In Episode 93, Bye, Bye Psyduck, Misty
meets a trainer named Marina who also uses Water-type Pokémon. Marina and Misty battle each other, at which point Misty discovers that Marina, too, has a Psyduck, but hers is much more obedient. During the battle, Psyduck disappears and is replaced by Golduck, prompting Misty to believe that her Psyduck has evolved. However, after Team Rocket
shows up in their Magikarp sub and captures Misty's and Marina's Pokémon, it is discovered that the Golduck is merely a wild one who likes to impress human females, to which Misty reacts by saying "Great. A Pokémon Brock
."

In the film Mewtwo Strikes Back, Golduck is one of the Pokémon brought by its trainer to New Island to face the challenge of Mewtwo
, and he is captured by Mewtwo and then cloned. Like all of the other cloned Pokémon, Golduck faces off against the original Golduck, and afterwards, departs with Mewtwo to Johto
.

In the Hoenn League Finals, Ash's first opponent Kaede battles with one, beating Ash's Torkoal, but getting beaten by his Corphish.
