| Gorebyss (サクラビス Sakurabyss in Japanese, Saganabyss in German and Rosabyss in French) is a fictional character of the Pokémon franchise. "Gorebyss" is probably a combination of either gorgeous or gore and abyss. The first word refers to either its graceful form or its horrifying method of feeding, while the second is a reference to Gorebyss living deep in the ocean trenches. AppearanceGorebyss looks like a pink deep-sea rattail fish (it has also been seen as an eel or dolphin). It has a long, thin mouth, a fin-like structure on top of its head, two shell-like structures on what might have been its chest if it had one, and eyelashes. Like real fish, Gorebyss has an inability to move its eyes in the fashion that mammals do.BiologyGorebyss inhabits the southern seas at extreme depths. Its body is deceptively durable, so as to withstand the extreme hydrostatic pressures exercised to it at such a depth, which explains its high defence stat.Gorebyss's elegant form is exquisite to behold while swimming. However, this Pokémon also has feeding habits that make it seem cruel. Gorebyss uses its thin mouth to pick at seaweed growing between rocks, but it can also use it in a much more sinister fashion. When hunting live prey, it sticks its mouth into the prey's body and proceeds to drain it of all bodily fluids. After it feeds in this way, its body turns a more vivid pink. Thus, Gorebyss is an omnivore. Itnriguingly, Gorebyss, while clearly meant to fill the female side of Clamperl's evolution, it can be male, just like Ralts, Kirlia, and Gardevoir, who suffer from a similar problem. In the video gamesGorebyss is not found in the wild in any game, but it can be obtained if a Clamperl is traded to another cart while holding the DeepSeaScale item. Therefore, the availability of Gorebyss depends on the availability of Clamperl, a DeepSeaScale and another person willing to trade.Gorebyss has above-average stats except for its Hit Points and speed. Its special attack, however, is among the best for Water-type Pokémon and its already high defensive capabilities can be further amplified using Iron Defence, which it can learn as a Clamperl, and Amnesia. In this way, a Gorebyss can survive for quite a long time while attacking with powerful special attacks. Another strategy besides outright offense is to have Gorebyss raise its defences and then use Baton Pass to transfer the statistic augmentations to another Pokémon. In the AniméGorebyss is featured along with Huntail in episode #371 (The Evolutionary War) Along with Huntail, it is extremely favored among the citizens of an island in Hoenn. Half the island's children want their Clamperl to evolve into Gorebyss. In the trading card gameGorebyss has only appeared on two cards, both as stage-1 Water-type cards:
