Greil is the father of Ike in the video game Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. He is the leader of Greil's Mercenaries. Also, he was once General Gawain, a Rider of Daein. He fled Daein about 20 years before the game begins to protect his wife, who had been given Lehran's Medallion by a Heron princess that Ashnard had captured before the Serenes Massacre. When he touched the medallion, he went insane, and slaughtered his wife and fellow villagers. After this, he hired the assassin Volke to kill him should he lose control again. So that Volke could handle him, Greil cut the tendons in his sword arm so that he could only fight with an axe. Early in the game, he is killed by his former student, an enigmatic swordsman known only as the Black Knight.
