Games - Grovyle

Grovyle (ジュプトル Juputoru in Japanese, Reptain in German and Massko in French) is a fictional character of the Pokémon
franchise.

Grovyle's name is most likely a cross between grove and reptile.

Characteristics

Appearance

Grovyle's appearance is styled after that of the gecko. It is a green lizard with a pink underbelly broken by a strip of green near its waist. Long, streaming leaves stem from its wrists, the top of its head, and its posterior.

Biology

The leaves that grow out of several parts of Grovyle's anatomy, as well as its matching green colouration, give it an excellent camouflage against the background of its native habitats, the forests and jungles.

Even if spotted, Grovyle has little trouble escaping danger. Its powerful thigh muscles make it very adept at climbing trees and jump from branch to branch very fast, disappearing into the forest before anyone can catch up to it.

In the video games

Grovyle is available in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald only if the player chooses its pre-evolved form Treecko
as their starter Pokémon.

Grovyle's greatest assets is its Speed and Special Attack, while its low Hit Points and Defense make it a fragile Pokémon, especially against physical attacks. Grovyle can learn powerful Grass-type attacks such as Leaf Blade (its signature move, which cannot be learned by any other Pokémon) and Solar Beam. As far as special attacks go, it can also learn Dark and Dragon-type skills.

In the animé

Grovyle first appeared in episode #317 ("What You Seed is What You Get"). It assisted a trainer in guarding fields of Watmel Berries and battled Ash's Treecko
, helping it master the Bullet Seed attack in the process.

Ash's Treecko evolved into a Grovyle in episode #342 (Exploud
and clear). Its personality did not change much; Grovyle is as much of a loner as Treecko was, and it loves the challenge of a battle. It also habitually keeps a twig in its mouth, only it is larger than the one it used to keep as a Treecko. When Ash returned to Kanto
to take the Battle Frontier
challenge, Grovyle was one of the Pokémon he took with him. Ash kept using Grovyle until it's evolution into Sceptile
.
