Habbakuk is a fictional god in the Dragonlance series of novels and role-playing settings.

Background

He is the god of both animal life and the sea, and is especially revered by sailors and rangers.

Habbakuk teaches peaceful and harmonic existence with nature, and is seen as a symbol of eternal life. He is also seen as an enforcer of natural justice.

Habbakuk is the son of Paladine and Mishakal, brother of Solinari and twin brother of Kiri-Jolith. With Kiri-Jolith and his father, he helped establish the Knights of Solamnia, and he is the patron deity of the Knights of the Crown.

Other Uses

In Harry Turtledove's "Darkness" series, Habbakuk was the code name of the floating iceberg developed by the Kuusamen islanders in the war against Algarve. From the frozen fortresses (meant to signify aircraft carriers in WWII), the Kuusamens and Lagoans launched dragon raids onto the Derlavian mainland without fear from leviathans. A viewpoint character, Leino, helped develop the idea and discovered his wartime infidelity while working on Habbakuk.
