Games - History of Imperian

Imperian, the Sundered Heavens
, is a MUD
based in a fictional, fantasy universe. The History of Imperian is the history of Aetherius, the continental landmass where Imperian is set. This history can be divided into three ages, each age being separated by a major event.

Note: Years are marked AH, AA, and AD for the age in which they happened, H being for Humanity, A for Awakening, and D for Desperation.

The Age Of Humanity

At the beginning of history, the nomadic people of Aetherius found themselves without animals to hunt due to a great flood. With desperation and hunger setting in, a tribal leader named Ik'taru received a divine message from the god Avasyu, Lord of Creation. This message showed him a fertile valley to the north that would save his people. Upon leading his people to this valley, Ik'taru fell to his knees, crying "Caan, caan!" caan being translated as "finally." As he taught his people to farm the land and they prospered, news of this promised land spread throughout the land and many tribes joined Iktaru's, eventually melding into one people. This was the birth of civilization in Aetherius. These people all worshipped Avasyu, thus creating the Cult of the Creator.

In 300 AH, a great drought destroyed the crops and raiders from the outlands weakened the disorganized and peaceful people of Caan, as the land grew to be called. In these dark times, a mighty warrior named Urlic rose and united the people, calling for one great, central city to be built. The result was Caanae, the greatest city in history. After the drought ended and the barbarians were pushed back, a great feast was held in honor of Avasyu, after which a temple was erected, the Temple of Avasyu.

As the hundreds of years of quiet peace rolled along, a couple laid down to rest one winter night. While sleeping, they participated in the same dream. That dream showed them two paths: one of light and one of peace. Each one chose a different path and, when they awoke, they retained great wisdom. Illuminas, God of Light, had chosen Ayva as his Prophetess of Light and Shallah, Goddess if Peace, had chosen Yaksha as her Prophet of Peace. Together, the couple spread the teachings of peace and hope. These positions of prophet and prophetess were passed down through the generations until Kalika Aisling, the great granddaughter of the original prophets, received a very different dream. She dreamed of a third path and, curious, wandered down it towards the sounds of battle. Aesir, God of War, had chosen her as his Prophetess of War, a position which she embraced. She fled to the south and founded a new city: Stavenn. For the next 100 years, Stavenn and Caanae would be locked in a horrible cycle of war and death.

In 589 AH, a young leader named Czevak rose to power in Stavenn, creating a Religion of Hate to use as a stepping stone. Once firmly in control, Czevak launched a mighty offensive against the city of Caanae, capturing the farmlands and poisoning the Great River. Preferring a quick victory, Czevak's armies were sent in to sack Cannae. This marked the first attack in the Generation War, a period of time where an entire generation never knew of peace. Czevak lead raid after raid for the next 25 years until he was convinced that only an attack lead by himself would win. Upon approaching Caanae and firing arrows upon for two days, the Caanae army marched out and met Czevak's army in battle. For a day and a night they fought, the battle culminating in a one on one battle between Czevak and Elder Nathariel, the leader of the Caanae army. With Czevak's defeat and death at the hands of Nathariel, the Stavenn soldiers either fled or surrendered. This battle, called the Red Siege for the blood color that would forever stain the ground, ended the Generation War and harkened in another time of prosperity in which great advancements were made.

During this time of advancement, Stavenn spies stole the mathematical formulas and architectural designs the people of Caanae has discovered. Using these, the people of Stavenn created a gigantic weapon capable of hurling stones at distant targets. When the people of Caanae learned of these weapons, they, too, created large war machines and thus another war, the War of Avarice, was fought for 7 years, with both sides claiming victory in the end.

The Age of the Awakening

During the month of Letum in 914 AH, or 1 AA as it would later be known, the single moon of Aetherius suffered a cataclysmic event and shattered into three pieces. The ensuing chaos on Aetherius claimed thousands of lives as floods, earthquakes, and storms devastated the lands.

Once equilibrium returned, scholars discovered this traumatic event had torn at the fabric of reality itself, releasing a mysterious force called "magick" upon the world. The three moons also affected the land themselves, as their orbits sometimes took them closer to the planet. The three moons were named Moradeim, the Moon of Change, Sukhder, the Moon of Terror, and Aryana, the Moon of Life.
