HolyQuest is an online text-based Multi-User Dungeon. Its world is based on the land of Canaan at the time of David, king of the twelve tribes. The HolyQuest world consists primarily of the land from sea of Chinnereth in the north to the Salt Sea in the south and from the Jordon River in the east to the the Great Sea in the west. The geopolitical setting for HolyQuest is based on descriptions found in the Bible as are the people, places, and creatures you will encounter as a player.

Geography

Geographically, the world of HolyQuest maps very closely to the land of Canaan during the period around 1000 B.C. While many of the cities, towns, and landmarks are similar to descriptions in the Bible, considerable creative license has been exercised when creating places for players to explore, without completely leaping outside of the boundaries of what really existed at the time of king David.

Players/Characters

HolyQuest's players are permitted any number of characters, and all gameplay is free of charge. New characters start the game with nothing, but are fully capable of fighting creatures that can be found close by to where they enter the world.

Characters are human and there are no classes. Characters earn weapon skill points which are used to increase their ability to wield a particular type of weapon more effectively. There is no magic.

Architecture

HolyQuest opened to the public on August 17, 2001 and has been in continuous operation since. The codebase on which HolyQuest runs is written in C++ using Microsoft Visual C++ version 6.0 and uses MFC.
