	Games - Hordes

Hordes is the name of the newest miniature wargame to be produced by Privateer Press. It was announced at Gencon 2005. It is scheduled for release Spring 2006.

Although it will be a standalone game, it will be fully compatible with Warmachine.

Gameplay

Hordes will be very similar to Warmachine in most aspects, with the exception of Warcasters, Warjacks, and Focus Management. The core mechanic will be the same as companion game Warmachine, roll two six-sided dice, add one stat, and compare the total to an opposing stat. Replacing the Warcaster as the commander of the army will be a Warlock, a powerful magic-user who draws upon the collective Fury of his warbeast to cast spells and heal damage. As the four factions in Hordes use no steamjacks, their functional parallel will be Warbeasts, large savage creatures. The Warlock will be able to "force" Warbeasts to perform special attacks, which builds up Fury points. The Warlock is then able to "leach" this Fury to add to his pool, otherwise the warbeast will continue to gather Fury, eventually losing control and going into an uncontrollable rage. This system had been dubbed "Risk Management" as opposed to "Focus Management".

Factions

Four factions native to the Iron Kingdoms make up the armies of Hordes:

The Trollbloods are a collection of various troll breeds, banding together to push back civilized nations and forces of the wild from their territories. Trollkin, Trolls, Pygmy Trolls & Dire Trolls have all been confirmed. Matt Wilson of Privateer Press has stated that the Trollbloods will be the 'protagonist' faction of Hordes. They have been described as extremely tough and resilient, and very strong melee fighters. Trollblood Dire Troll Mauler Heavy Warbeast, Trollblood Scattergunners and Trollblood Champions are other units for Trollbloods that have been confirmed.
The Circle Orboros is a collective of powerful druids who command the forces of nature againsts their foes. Woldwardens (Giant magical guardians of Druidic sacred space) and Tharn warriors have been confirmed. The circle has been described as very fast, stealthy, with very strong magic capabilities. Woldwarden Heavy Warbeast, Tharn Ravagers and Wolves of Orboros have been confirmed as units of the Cicle Orboros
The Legion of Everblight is an army of mutated and twisted creatures who serve the newly-awakened dragon, Everblight. Dragonspawn (Hideous eyeless mutants created by Dragons shedding their blood) & dragonblighted Nyss elves have been confirmed. The legion has been described as having extremely strong ranged attack options. The Legion are led by the Ogrun who discovered the resting place of Everblight's athanc, now known as the Abomination. Seraph Light Warbeast and Legion of Everblight Blighted Archers have been officially confirmed as Legions units.
The Skorne are a warlike and savage race of nomads invading from the Bloodstone Marches. Warlock paingivers, the Melee Titan & the Cyclops have all been confirmed. Skorne have been described as very regimented, and militaristic, with good armour and discipline. The Skorne have built a massive citadel that breaches the stormlands at the behest of the ex-king of Cygnar, Vinter Raelthorne. Skorne Titan Cannoneer Heavy Warbeast and Skorne Praetorians have also been confirmed as Skornes units.
