Story

If Hugo is Andore, then he and several members of his family were promiment members of Mad Gear, although Cody
outfought the elder members in a cage match in the West Side and Haggar seems to have humiliated Andore in the original Final Fight, which would infuriate the wrestler to no end-enough that in Final Fight Revenge even with becoming a fearsome professional wrestler, Andore attempted to give a televised broadcast to Haggar challenging him to the mayorship through a wrestling match-a broadcast that ironically never aired. Andore and his family would continue to join Metro City's most prominent gangs for years to come, including a revived, worldwide Mad Gear in Final Fight 2 and Mad Gear's successor the Skull Cross gang in Final Fight 3. Even so, Haggar and his friends crushed each of these syndicates and Andore's hopes of glory.

Seemingly going fully legitimate and accompanied by Poison, Hugo entered the third World Warrior tournament in Street Fighter III: Second Impact because he wanted to find a suitable tag team partner, due to his former one being mysteriously killed off by a rival. During the tournament, Hugo battled with Ryu
, a traveler who is constantly perfecting his fighting skills. In that battle Hugo was hit by the Shin Shoryuken, Ryu's most powerful move, but he wasn't knocked out by it and continued to put on an amazing performance. Ryu may have temporarily been his tag team partner anyways, but a permanent solution was not given and again Hugo needed a partner.

Eventually, Hugo and Poison decided to start their own wrestling promotion in Street Fighter III: Third Strike, the Huge/Hyu Wrestling Army (HWA). Their main objective is to take over all of pro wrestling.

It seems Hugo is back at underground wrestling and fighting pits in Final Fight: Streetwise where Kyle Travers
will have to face him.

Trivia

  • Hugo's look and build are based off of the late professional wrestler, AndrĂ© the Giant. If Hugo is Andore (see below), then a name change was instigated so that Capcom couldn't be sued for such an obvious influence right up to the name.
  • Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, there are no official statements that prove that Hugo is a member of the Andore family from the Final Fight series, though several Capcom source books claim he is in it.
  • *Some speculation indicate that he is Andore Jr., in which case he was just a generic enemy whose biggest point in the game was carrying Cody
to his older family members in the West Side stage of Final Fight.
  • *If he's actually plain Andore himself, this is confirmed by them sharing the exact same color scheme, the fact that Hugo is clearly an Andore period (and as such logic demands he'd be the original basic character), and two bios, one from a Capcom sourcebook. The sourcebook claims Hugo went with his family consisting of a younger brother, father, and grandfather to America for a wrestling career, and another from a game called Capcom Classics Collection, which claims Andore Jr. was the younger brother of Andore who trains with and wishes to surpass him (thusly affirming that Hugo's younger brother would be Andore Jr. himself). Ironically, if they trained together, then Andore Jr. was probably Hugo's recently-lost tag team partner.
  • Since 2nd Impact, Hugo has made a rivalry with Alex
    .
  • Hugo's likeness can be seen in the background of Guy's stages in Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Street Fighter Alpha 3.
  • Hugo and Alex's pose before battle is in reference to the feud between AndrĂ© the Giant and Hulk Hogan.
  • Hugo's win poses are based off of Hulk Hogan and The Big Show.
