Plot

SG-1 is assisting in the evacuation of the Nasyans who are attacked by an unknown Goa'uld. One of the natives is hit by a blast from a Death glider and Captain Carter attempts mouth to mouth resucitation unsuccesfully. However he suddenly grabs her and a Goa'uld symbiote enters her body, as indicated by her glowing eyes. She is then pulled away by Col. O'Neil while on another place Daniel saves a badly burned man.

Back at Stargate Command, Carter begins to exhibit odd behaviour (f.e. during a meeting she acts very rude towards Teal'c) and when she goes to visit Cassandra, Cassandra senses that she has become a Goa'uld. The frightened Cassandra is then visited by O'Neill and tells him what happened to Carter. Meanwhile back at SGC 'Carter' attempts to leave on the next mission but Col. O'Neill stops her and although she puts on resistance she is captured.

Afterwards the other members of SG-1 discuss with General Hammond and Dr. Fraiser what to do about her because removing the Goa'uld could go wrong. They later question the Goa'uld, who at first is uncooperative but eventually confesses to Teal'c that she really is Jolinar of Malkshur, a member of the Goa'uld resistance movement known as "Tok'ra". She also reveals that the attack on the planet of the Nasyans was an attempt to kill her, and a Goa'uld assassin called an "Ashrak" was also on the planet hunting him.

Meanwhile in the hospital the badly injured Nasyan which Daniel helped has miraculously healed and murdered a doctor. The Nasyan in question is (of course) the Ashrak and, using mind control technology, he gains access to SGC. He then disables several security systems and gains access to the cell in which Jolinar/Carter is being held. He starts to attack her with some kind of Hand device and both Carter and Jolinar experience extreme pain. When the surveillance cameras in the holding cell are disabled Teal'c and O'Neill rush there and find Jolinar/Carter unconscious.

The Ashrak later tries to escape through the Stargate but when he is found he takes Daniel captive. However he is quickly overthrown and killed by Teal'c with a Zat. In the meantime Fraiser fights for Carter's life and she finally gets her back after the Goa'uld died. However Carter reveals that Jolinar sacrificed her life to save Carter.
