Games - Jecht

Jecht (ジェクト Jekuto in Japanese) is a fictional character from the role-playing game Final Fantasy X. He is best known as Tidus
' father as well as being a major blitzball star in his hometown of Zanarkand
.

Jecht is tall, muscular, surly, and has a tendency for getting drunk. Jecht has a powerful blitzball move called a "Jecht Shot," where he kicks the ball into one opponent, it rebounds, hits the ball into another opponent, it rebounds again, and then he kicks it into the goal. It's a wonderful move, for it stuns two opponents, usually scores a goal, and lastly, it puts on quite a show.

Tidus claims he hates Jecht because whenever Jecht was around, his mother didn't pay him any attention. Also, Jecht was never much of a good fatherly figure. He constantly criticized his son and called him a "crybaby." In a flashback, Tidus envisioned his father saying "Gonna cry again? Cry, cry… that's the only thing you're good for." Jecht then disappeared one day ten years before Tidus' encounter with Sin while on an expedition out at sea. He was never seen again by the people of Zanarkand.

It was during those ten years of absence that Jecht was in Spira
, having been taken there by pure coincidence by the Sin that came before him. Jecht was from the dream world of Zanarkand constantly being sustained by the fayth. When he came in contact with Sin, he became "real." (That is, he was no longer a dream.)

To the peoples of Spira, Jecht is known as Sir Jecht, as the man who, along with Auron
, accompanied Lord Braska as guardians on his journey to defeat Sin. Jecht's tendency to drink sometimes got him into trouble— he once thought that a shoopuf was a giant fiend
and wounded it, forcing Lord Braska (Yuna's father) to pay for the damage out of his pocket. Auron jokingly told this story to Tidus, to which Tidus grudgingly replied, "Sounds like my old man, all right." After this incident, however, Jecht gives up drinking so he would not look like a "fool" to his family.

When Jecht, Auron, and Braska got to Zanarkand, Jecht was the one who gave up his life to become the Final Aeon, and as the Final Aeon, he defeated Sin, and the "cycle of death" continued. He and Braska were killed, and ten years later, Jecht's soul was trapped within Sin, to be controlled by the destructive will of Yu Yevon. The only way Jecht/Sin could operate of his own free will was when he heard the "Hymn of the Fayth."

Tidus, Yuna, and the others confronted Jecht inside Sin and defeated him, Tidus finally making peace with his father. After Sin was destroyed and Jecht's spirit finally laid to rest, they were confronted by the remains of Yu Yevon's spirit. They destroyed it, thus ending the "spiral of death."

Jecht in Final Fantasy X-2

Jecht makes a voice appearance in the final part of Final Fantasy X-2 along with Braska, Auron
and the Fayth, giving Yuna encouraging words and advice in the final battle against Shuyin and Vegnagun. He also appears in a short flashback from the scholar Maechen.
