Joanna Dark is the female protagonist of the Perfect Dark video game franchise developed by Rareware. Her name is derived from Joan of Arc (Jeanne d'Arc in French).

She debuted in Perfect Dark, released in 2000 for the Nintendo 64 console. She appeared shortly after in a Game Boy Color Perfect Dark game.

Joanna Dark goes under the codename Perfect Dark, in honor of her flawless performance on agent training tests. Her weapon of choice is the fictional Falcon handgun with silencer.

During Perfect Dark Zeros long development process (its development shifted from the GameCube to the Xbox
and then finally to the Xbox 360
) there was considerable controversy over Joanna's appearance. Rare released several concept images of Joanna as an anime-styled teen that caused an outcry among fans. Those designs were eventually scrapped, but Rare couldn't completely escape scorn as many fans have harped on the fact that almost every promotional image of Joanna features her freshly painted fingernails.
