Joel Lautier (born 12 April 1973) is a French chess grandmaster. Joel Lautier is one of the strongest Chess Grandmasters France has. He was World junior champion in 1988, and has won the French Chess Championship in 2004 and 2005. He is in 2005 the second best french GM after Etienne Bacrot. He is also one of the founder of ACP, Association of Chess Players (www.chess-players.org). He has been the president of the association in 2004-2005. Joel Lautier counts several wins against top GrandMasters including Karpov,Kasparov,Kramnik,Gelfand,etc.

In January 2005 his ELO rating was 2678, making him the number 24 rated player in the world.
