Games - Kuriboh

Kuriboh (クリボー Kuribō) is a monster card from the anime, manga, and card game series Yu-Gi-Oh!
.

  • Attribute: Dark
  • Type: Fiend
  • Level: 1
  • Attack Points: 300
  • Defense Points: 200
  • Card Text: Discard this card from your hand to the Graveyard to make the damage inflicted to your Life Points by 1 opponent's monster 0. This effect must be activated during your opponent's Battle Phase.
During the Noah Kaiba arc, Kuriboh had a different effect. As a Deck Master, it stood separate from the field until its effect was activated. As per Deck Master rules, if Kuriboh is destroyed while serving as your Deck Master, you lose the duel instantly, regardless of Life Points.

Kuriboh
  • Type: Fiend/Deck Master
  • Level: 1
  • Attack Points: 300
  • Defense Points: 200
  • Card Text: When your opponent attacks your Life Points directly, you may activate this card's effect. Negate the attack and end your opponent's turn. Then Special Summon this card to the field.

Monster Card

Kuriboh is a weak monster on the field, but if used properly, it could help change the outcome of the match. If used with the magic card Multiply it can create a multiple defence barrier of Kuriboh's. Also, if you have it in your hand, you can discard it to reduce any direct life point damage to 0.

All Kuribohs have a few common characteristics. All are small, hairy, round creatures with large eyes. Most Kuribohs are brown, although there are exceptions such as the 5 Kuriboh Brothers. They also have similar stats: most are 1 Star (except Winged Kuriboh LV10, and possibly Kuribabylon and Kuribandit), all have 300 ATK and 200 DEF (except Kuribabylon and Kuribandit), all are DARK Fiends (Except Winged Kuriboh and Winged Kuriboh LV10), and all are commonly mocked and ridiculed by other duelists who doubt their powers. Despite this however, Kuribohs have often saved Yugi Mutou (Yugi Muto in the English anime) and Jaden Yuki (Judai Yuki in the Japanese versions) from losing a duel at just the right moment. The Kuribohs are hostile towards those who make fun of them, but are affectionate and fun-loving towards their owners. They also have an amusing cry of 'bree bree!' Despite not being very practical in most duels, the Kuribohs have always been important in the anime.

Notable Appearances

Kuriboh
In the manga and in the second series anime (Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters) Kuriboh is first seen when Yugi duels against Insector Haga (Weevil Underwood in the English anime). Yugi used Kuriboh to set off an exploding trap that Haga had set, it was only shown in this scene for a short time.

Kuriboh also is seen when Yugi duels Seto Kaiba at Pegasus' castle. Kaiba summons the Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon
, which in the Trading Card Game is the highest ATK monster without any other cards to increase its power; it is surpassed by two other Fusion Monsters in the Japanese OCG. Kuriboh is combined with Multiply, and this proves to be the only way to hold off the fusion monster long enough for Yugi to mount a comeback. Kuriboh helps Yugi defend against Obelisk the Tormentor
during the Battle City semifinals. Kaiba attempts to use Obelisk's Special Ability to win the duel through the effect damage, as Obelisk's ability could not destroy Slifer the Sky Dragon
outright. Yugi stops him by discarding Kuriboh to block the attack (Obelisk's Special Ability is considered an attack in the anime). When Yugi activates Ragnarok to remove The Winged Dragon of Ra from play, Kuriboh can be seen scratching The Winged Dragon of Ra's beak while Obelisk holds it in a headlock and Slifer wraps around it.

In the second series anime, Kuriboh is seen in the Noah Kaiba saga as Yugi's Deck Master against DeepSea Warrior/Gansley (Konosuke Oshita in the Japanese version) of the Big 5. Although Yugi wanted to choose Dark Magician as his Deck Master, Kuriboh picked itself. He then proved Gansley's countless insults against him false, as he allowed Yugi to activate the Magic card "Rainbow Blessings," and won. Kuriboh is also seen in the second series during the Waking the Dragons (Doma) saga, appeared from inside the Millennium Puzzle. He leads Yugi and the Pharaoh to Dark Magician Girl
and the resting place of the Legendary Dragons.

Kuriboh reappeared in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX when Dimitri (Kagurazaka) took Yugi's deck as his own. Kuriboh seemed a bit confused when Dimitri commented him.
